Jason Dunn is an executive overseeing billions of dollars flowing through his clients' accounts. He's perched high on the corporate ladder, but after one mistake he falls with a crash, barely keeping his job. When his new lover has an idea to cash in and disappear with her, the temptation to burn the institution that burned him is too enticing to resist.
### From the Author
It's hard to believe that thirty years have passed since I first darkened the door of a bank as an employee. Over that period, I've endured varied reactions from others when responding to the mundane question, "What do you do for a living?" The reaction I used to receive was a glance over my shoulder that told me they wanted to find someone more remarkable to speak with. Like an accountant, for instance. But since the '08 financial meltdown and the (well-deserved) scorn my banking brethren have engendered, the reaction has been much more interesting.
I've found that bankers have replaced lawyers as the scapegoats for all things reprehensible in current economics. The old stereotype of the balding, vested, overweight, cigar-smoking desk jockey has been replaced by the image of a modern robber-baron intent not only on capitalizing on the efforts of others, but on ripping off the populace through taxpayer-sponsored bailouts.
It was these experiences that led me to write Cash Burn. The contempt for bankers. The uncertainty in the economy. The mismanagement of insured institutions. The politics played within organizations. And the potential for circumvention of the internal controls that banks as regulated entities are supposed to structure so carefully. In Cash Burn, Jason Dunn's life is unraveling--not coincidentally--and with the authority of his position he's the perfect target for a con motivated by revenge that's been coddled for decades.
I hope you enjoy the story.
